Once upon a time fashion was so straight cut and uptight. Every outfit seemed just totally expected and repetitive. Not until lately did we start seeing designers push for quirkiness and fun pieces on the runways. Giving us dose after dose of fun characters being featured in their collections. I am sure we all got a bit sideswiped by the Moschino craze for McDonald and Sponge Bob themed autumn/winter 2014 collection, hahaha. Eeeek, was my first reaction when I saw it. I thought it was a bit much, but honestly, it broke grounds for high fashion to take things a little less seriously for a change and that was awesome. Jeremy Scott has continued with this concept in every collection since after that.
Interestingly though, vintage to me, has always embraced colorful, bold, out there, be different, have fun, character themed styles. You too? Isn't that even the beauty of fashion anyway? This vintage style skirt was another one of my many finds. The bold red color, texture, cute little words/characters on it and what i call "the sideways" pockets were just one of the many reasons I wanted it. I thought of so many fun ways to style it but I went with a simple black lace top. It is light enough for summer and balances out the weight and texture of the skirt.
Being a huge fan of retro style and vintage pieces anyway, i decided to shoot this outfit outside a very old church building Bathurst Street, Toronto. I love the old and rustic charming bit of the building, and i thought it would be a perfect fit for this look :).
