Sweats really don't have to be sloppy.
The first Toronto Men's Fashion Week -TOM*FW was held last week at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto from August 12th to August 14th. One of the sponsors of this event was Redwood Classic Apparel, the maker behind Roots' iconic sweats -- among many other internationally celebrated brands. Throughout Toronto Men's Fashion Week, Redwood's Hector Cardigan (which is the men's version of Lawren - The cardigan i am wearing today) was available for purchase for $75 at TOM*. Proceeds will benefit Men's Fashion 4 Hope in support of the Kol Hope Foundation at SickKids Hospital.
Each Redwood Classics piece is handmade right here in the company's Toronto factory by highly skilled textile professionals and i would love to visit one day.
I know when you first hear sweats you immediately think excessively casual, lax or slack, but this Lawren Cardigan sure proves otherwise. With the chilly days in mind I challenged myself to style it in ways that will bring out the beauty of the cardigan, make it stylish, and to show that sweats can definitely be worn in so many stylish ways while still keeping a very relaxed look rather than the lazy look associated with it.
LOOK #1: Styled it with a pair bell bottom denim pants for that relaxed yet upbeat kind of look.
Apart from the fact that this Lawren Cardigan is thick, warm, comfy, soft and smooth to touch, my favorite part of the cardigan is the shawl-neck. It adds some swag to your look, and i like that a lot.
<Tweet>: Shawl-neck makes turtle neck look so yesterday.
LOOK #2: Since i find denim/jeans to be my go to pieces because they are very relaxing and usually comfy, i went with denim again. Here, i styled the cardigan with a pair of my favorite studded denim shorts for some spunk at the bottom and a printed buttoned up long sleeved collared shirt for even a more polished look on top.
Some fun facts about Redwood Classics:
- Keeping Canada on the global fashion stage, the company is currently shipping to the US, Europe and Japan.
- They recently produced Todd Snyder's collection of athletic wear with Champion.
- In 2014, Redwood's factory was named a Top Innovator by Apparel Magazine alongside industry stalwarts like Adidas, JCPenney, and Halston.
- In 2013, Redwood's powerhouse president Kathy Cheng was inaugurated into WXN’s list of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada.

I like them both. Shorts look more summery to me and since we still have summer I would definitely promote the second look.
This cardigan is actually really cute and it looks cozy!

I like the cardigan color.
They're not as bulky as they use to be. That purple looks amazing on you!
I love how you paired the lovely cardigan with jeans and shorts. Looking so chic and sporty at the same. Beautiful as always Busola!

For me cardigans are really difficult. I think they're always looking so bourgeoise on me! But actually they're cool, especially here in your case! You combined the jacket wonderfully! It looks fresh and chic and not frumpy! Love it.

Super idea. I'm not a huge cardigan fan but I really love what you've done here :)

It always shocks me a little how dramatically a hat changes the entire look of an outfit. I used to shy away from hats. I just did not like to muss my hear, if truth be told. Now I am a big hat fat! Hair not such an issue with me now!
Love this purple cardi, fabulously styled both ways , especially in those gorgeous shorts, you have some figure !!
Have a great week !
