The fun of being in a another city for the first time is finding great spots. While a good shopping mall is always somewhere there on top of my list, I do love to find great restaurants and cute coffee shops too.

Since the past couple of weeks that i have been here on St Maartens/St Martins Island, i have been quite the frequent guest at GIO's. GIO's Gelateria and Caffe is a cute Dutch style coffee and ice cream shop right outside of the resort i am staying at. The recommendation came from a guest at the resort and i have since been in love with the cute little place. Their ice cream is made in-house and their coffee is always made with love. My first time there was to have ice cream but as a coffee lover, i couldn't help but give that a go as well, and yes, i am in love with the rich taste and flavour.
On New Year's Eve afternoon, i managed to have a little time to myself, so i figured i might as well have a latte date alone with one of my favorite resort dresses from 2015. Time alone to me, is time well spent. It gives me a chance to just be, recharge and of course on this very day, a moment to reflect on the coming year. Nothing too deep though :).
Sometimes the interesting part of sitting alone in a pretty dress sipping on a hot cup of coffee/latte pretty much just opens up the flood gates of conversations from other guests/strangers walking in for some ice cream or coffee or even with the workers there. Can I be honest? I really don't mind. I tend to appreciate a little talk from total strangers as long as it is harmless :). I enjoy meeting people, making friends, learning new things everyday from others. You just never know who you might be having a conversation with. For instance, after a few minutes of playing with my phone, a lady whom i would say, looked like she could be in her late forties with an impressive build, i was so sure she was a trainer, walked in. She smiled at me and said, "Nice"
Me (I replied, saying): "Yes, the coffee is really nice"
The lady: "No, your dress is nice"
Me (grinning from ear to ear and a little embarrassed): Oooh! Aww, thank you so much!
The lady turns away to the barista and said: I need coffee, but not too strong please
Then she turns towards me, giggling and said: "I need something to stay up tonight (for NYE celebration).
Me: Right. Same here 'cause every year I usually just fall asleep.
The Lady: Me too! I used to mix vodka with Red Bull to drink but my heart starts to beat very fast after. I don't like that.
Me: Eeek! Noooo, you don't want that.
I am not sure I can even remember exactly how this "Redbull x Vodka" conversation ended but i appreciate just the simple fact that she gave me a sweet compliment about my dress and was nice enough to carry on a small conversation. I wasn't having a bad day at all to start with, but even if i was, just that little gesture goes a long way for me. It put an extra smile on my face and an interesting end to my latte date.
