ANKARA MIDI SKIRT

ANKARA MIDI SKIRT
If my mom told me some many years ago i would one day be styling ankara with a pair of boots, i would have laughed out and said, "Haa, mothers! Always so optimistic about everything".

The thing is, it is happenning right now! I grew up wearing ankara because it was a traditional outfit in Nigeria and quite honestly, it was also one of the most accesible kind of african inspired prints that could be worn very casually or out for an ocassion. Everyone wore it. We had to buy yards of ankara fabric, then give it to a tailor/seamstress to make us an outfit of our choice. It seemed like there were only a couple of styles everyone stuck with. Well, the story is obviously different today because ankara got a facelift and they are now made ready to wear. It is pouring down runways all over the world with breathtaking prints and incredible designs.

This is the first time i am styling ankara on the blog and this ankara midi skirt from Kuwala couldn't have been more perfect. There are many ways to wear a printed skirt even in fall or winter and today, i can proudly say the same for an African inspired piece like this skirt too. On a cold day like today, i paired the flowy A-lined ankara midi skirt with a turtleneck sweater and a pair of sassy red Italian made boots for an edgy look. BAM!
