A friend once asked me to make him a BLT sandwich (Bacon Lettuce and Tomato sandwich) and he specifically said, "Please put butter on the bread and not mayo." but by default, well in my world, mayonnaise is the chosen spread for such sandwiches, like you know, burgers and such. My response to his request was, "Butter? Or you mean mayo?" and he said, "Nope butter please!" Of course, you know, I gave him the look of disapproval and that face you make when you try to picture the thought of eating something that may sound gross to you. Anyway, I fixed the sandwich using his beloved butter as a spread and gave it to him. He gulped it so fast and asked for another one. Really? Okay, that was when I realized I needed to try it too, but without him knowing, right? Come on, I just completely destroyed the thought of putting butter on a BLT sandwich bread with my face and nose up in the air, I can't let him see me eat that. Well, finally, he left and I toasted two slices of bread, applied butter to the toasted bread as soon as they popped because on my weird high maintenance side, I like my butter melt right into my toasts. I threw on some lettuce, a couple slices of tomatoes and a few strips of bacon, cut that baby into two halves, picked up one-half and said a quick little prayer before taking a bite. OMG! Okay, friends, this is the part where you insert that glorious music you play in your head when you find out you won a lottery, and everything, including my ability to chew, is all in slow motion. Boy, did I do a slow motion dance too. I grabbed my plate of sandwich, pulled out a chair and sat down to take in every bite. It was reaaaallly good ya'll. Okay, I know it sounds like a lot for just a sandwich named after its only 3 recipes and items that go on it, but it really was more than that for me. I was so much about the spread, the beautiful surprise in my mouth and the relief I didn't have to worry about being scarred for life if it tasted bad.
This month, in partnership with Gay Lea, we were supposed to share our experience with one of their Spreadables and of course you know, this just brought back memories of my BLT with butter spread moment. Plus, the fact is, I have continued to use butter as a spread on a lot of other such sandwiches since that day. For instance, I made this Roast Beef Egg sandwich the other day when I had to run out and needed something quick to eat that will hold me up on a hot summer day. I used some of that Gay Lea creamy Butter Spreadables on my toasted bread -Y.U.M.M.M.Y! I like the fact that it has no preservatives and it is a great source of Omega 3. I was so tempted to try the Gay Lea Cinnamon and Brown Sugar Spreadables but I figured it would be best on pancakes or french toast instead. Haaa, so many choices, very little time. So I suggest, try something new while you can. You don't know what you might be missing.
Thank you all for stopping by. Now you may share your thoughts.
